After the club's great trip to the Dolomites last year (and the Pyrenees the year before!) the camping trip abroad this year was to the Vercors, with the campsite in Village Au Joyeux Reveil, Autrans.
This pretty area abounds with good walks of all grades, dramatic gorges, big limestone crags, unspoiled meadows, caves, including the world famous show cave Grottes de Choranche.

Meanwhile back in the UK -

The Berwyn Range in Wales.

Right shows the head of the Berwyn Horsehoe, with Cadair Berwyn and Moel Sych its highest points.

Below is the lichen covered trig point on Foel y Geifr above the Hirnant Pass, with the tremendous Aran ridge behind.

The route up Helvellyn via Fisher Ghyll takes in this delightful waterfall. The ghyll then branches into Brund Gill, and the route continues up onto Whiteside.

Gaitbarrows nature reserve has some amazing sights, including some of the best limestone pavement in the UK, and the Ladies Slipper Orchid, here shown after its best

The verge at Sandside must be one of the most easily accessible places to view orchids. Apart from the usual ones such as early purple and northen marsh, there are common twayblade - right, the rare fly orchid - below left, and the butterfly orchid - below right.

During the month, the Westmorland Gazette ran three weekly articles by historian Peter Holme, of Kendal, describing the history of mountain rescue teams in the Lake District.
